Who are we?
We are a youth-led nonprofit organization that introduces young people to robotics, electronics, and engineering through engaging, hands-on experiences designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and confidence in STEM.
Yudesh's Story
Hello, my name is Yudesh Singh! I am currently a senior at Scholars’ Academy and recently completed a research fellowship through NYU ARISE, where I met Wilson.
Growing up in the Rockaways, I saw firsthand how limited engineering and STEM opportunities can be for students in my community. I often had to look outside of my neighborhood to find opportunities to explore my interest in engineering, and I realized many other students faced the same challenge.
This inspired me to found the Rockaway Robotics Organization. I wanted to create more accessible opportunities for students to learn about engineering, build new skills, and discover interests they may not have had the chance to explore before. For me, this organization is not only about robotics, but also about giving back to the community that shaped me.
Wilson's Story
Hey, my name is Wilson Liang! I am currently a junior at New Utrecht High School. I first discovered my passion for engineering through a robotics program during my freshman year, where I learned how to build projects using electronics. That experience was one of the most rewarding experiences I had as it ultimately inspired me to pursue engineering in the future.
At the same time, I realized that opportunities like this were not accessible to everyone. Many engineering opportunities are highly selective, not available to students, or can be too expensive for students. I wanted to help change that by creating a place where students could explore engineering, build hands-on projects, and discover the same excitement that inspired me.
When I met Yudesh, we realized we shared the same goal, and together we started Rockaway Robotics. I love helping others and giving back to my community, and I hope to inspire more students to see what is possible through engineering.
